Patience and Persistence Really Matt

                                              Patience and Persistance
really matter when you're trying to do 10 different things in one day or one year.

The book of Psalms, chapter 90; verse 4 says "that a thousand years are in your eyes but as yesterday when it has past.
* 2 Peter 3:8 says Let this fact not be escaping your notice: one day is with Jahovah/ God as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as (or like) a day.

So, in essence it has taken me several - hundred thousand years if not 100 thousand years to finish my novels - *plural novels I might add. And I had to abandon social networking quite a bit in order to commit myself to the discipline of writing.
Now comes the hard, expensive part, PR and Marketing. There's also the issue of whether to spend the next two years (2000 yrs) querying for a traditional publisher or opting out for self publishing. Ho hum! Not to mention....everybody and their mother claims to be a publisher these day. They hang out their website shingles like digital book doctors.
Well, I like to shop, and I like research, so the best thing I figure I'll do is read what they have to offer and remember that my work and my words have value and so  does my wallet. Don't forget to read the small print and ask the right questions, because everything matters when your work is on the line - especiallywhen it took you thousands of years to write it.
I missed all the scribes who write children's Lit, I've met over the years and I'm glad to be back looking for the next Book Of The Month in 2013...God willing.

SIT (stay in touch),
Magpie

The Tattle Tales Newsletter
by Hedda Harper

Hello from Brazil! This is Hedda Harper.

Did I ever tell you how I met Esalt Montes from Rio?  No not the movie. I'm talking about my compadre, the boy snoop and lizard on the team at Tattle Tales. Here he is.

When I decided to take my first trip to the Amazon Rainforest in South America, also called the Amazon Jungle.  I had no idea who I might meet or happen onto. (Did you know 60 percent of this rainforest is in Brazil.) For sure, I didn't know what might be seen there or heard there or even smelled and tasted there.
I'd heard that the Carnival was outstanding and the costumes were magificent, but I knew very little about the rest of Rio De Janeiro, except the primary language spoken is Spanish. Which was good, because I wanted it to be a new and exciting experience, and a total surprise.
When I stepped off the plane, the hot, balmy, tropical breezes slapped me right in the face, like a wet heat wave, only it felt good. One thing for sure, no way was a hot sweater for the air conditioned burr of the airplane needed. So I pulled that off immediately. Underneath, I was sporting a brand new, colorful, halter top - perfect for these skin friendly weather conditions.
The hotel was just as breezy and open as Brazil itself.  Their was an Atrium in my hotel full of tropical giant plants with green leaves the size of a newborn baby or bigger. From my hotel balcony, the Carribean Ocean splashed about and surfers rode the waves of five or six stories of water.

Moon-doggies peppered the turquoise ocean waters like ants on a wave. What do you call those guys who jump off cliffs into the sea? Cliff Divers? They were there too.
But my day had already been mapped out. My itinerary had me scheduled for  my first excursion into the Amazon Rainforest, and that's where I met Esalt Montes. Right around here. Isn't that a beautiful sight. He said he was actually waitng for me to come there.

This was more than a walk in the park in Pantanal, Brazil. This is Esalt Montes' home...some of it, becaue it spans many more countries like Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina - to name a few.
Next week, an interview, pictures and more with the latest edition of the Tattle Tales Team, Esalt Montes, the boy snoop and lizard on the wall.

Stay In Touch,
Hedda Harper

Q. Did Hedda Harper describe Brazil correctly or spell Rio De...correctly?
Q. How many countries make up this massive rainforest...?
Q. Can you name two more or tell me what familiar deadly furry creature       also resides in this rainforest?

*Answers in two weeks

A POET WHO KNOWS IT! CELEBRATE KEN SLESARIK

POET OF THE MONTH,   KEN SLESARIK DOES NOT BELIEVE IN POETRY FOR WOMEN ONLY.
Read his interview and views on a woman dominated genre, that is wrritten by a lot of males.

Why do you believe that children's poetry is important?

There is a very indepth and insightful interview of Poet Ken Slesarik on (children's author) David  L. Harrison's blog  at   http://www.davidlharrison.com/2011/07/20/ken-slesarik-today-2/
'Ken is known for his great ear for rhyme and wry humor'

Which do you prefer rhyme or free verse; why?

Ken: I used to think if it's free and they're giving it away, it must not have value...

How much does a children's poet need to know about the ground rules of poetry; what's appropriate?

Ken: To become a better writer, you definetly need to know the rules and recognize when to break them...

What attracts Male writer's to poetry instead of fiction or non-fiction?....

When its so hard finding a publisher, how can an emerging poet get exposure and gain confidence...

Why are some males  afraid to write poetry or be considered poets - what's the stigma....

How did you know you were a poet and describe your journey.
  My Problem
 By Ken Slesarik
I eat those healthy vegetables,
greens of every kind.
They keep me fit and strong
in my body and my mind.
With broccoli for breakfast
and collard greens for lunch;
green peas by the handful,
and lettuce by the bunch.
You’d think with all this greenery,
my life would be just great,
a healthy glow and energy,
at an ideal weight.
It seems I found a side effect,
to say that would be fair.
I’ve got sprouts of leafy spinach,
instead of curly hair.
The doctor says I should add
more protein to my diet.
What’s to lose? Look at me.
Perhaps I need to try it.

Ted
By Ken Slesarik

Ted the cannibalistic tick
is not so good at arithmetic.
He eats those ticks, yes quite a few,
then loses count before he’s through.
It’s so uncouth to eat your kind,
but don’t tell Ted, he doesn’t mind.
Dear Ted, my pleading don’t ignore,
it’s fine to be a carnivore
but this advice it should suffice,
learn to count and switch to lice.

Yeti’s Promise
 Yeti made a privy promis
 between him and Sheriff Thomas.
Pledgin’ to stay out of trouble
in lieu of costs with fines double.
One night, the Yeti, out from hidin,’
 tryin’ to be law abidin,’
had the urge to “kick it.”
 Root beer lead to sassafrassin’
so he was cited for harassin’
 bystanders and pedestrians.
 Then we mad equestrians,
 gathered guns and tawny rope
Some read their horoscopes in hopes
 of guidance in the thicket.
The search, it lingered on for days
then somethin’ moved beyond the haze.
It spooked the horses and the men.
We heard it once and then again
In that darkness he approached us,
then smiled and said “Buenos noches,
how ‘bout a game of cricket,
Not lookin’ for a fight that night
we played cricket by the moonlight.
The game, was too complex for us,
 and he was ambidextrous.
We thought we were appeasin’  him,
and no one teased him on a whim,
 yet he began to picket.
“Your promise, Yeti, that’s why we’re here
just pay your fine, no need to fear.”
“We’ve searched and you’ve eluded us.”
“Don’t picket and be rude to us.”
Then shots rang out, the chase was on.
We think we hit him but he’s gone..
 and someone paid the ticket.
